Jewish Community Federation

The 2008 decision and its implementation.
PAGE UNDER DEVELOPMENT

An email sent 8:15 pm Thursday, September 11, 2008, Federation announced its decision: to move its operations to Beachwood while still maintaing a down presence. Read the full email.

The Board of Trustees resolution pledged to:

  • maintain Federation's current offices at 1750 Euclid Avenue
  • explore opportunities to expand its support for downtown Cleveland, and to
  • purchase a Beachwood building to house operations in the heart of the Jewish community

Friday morning's Cleveland Plain Dealer carried the story  Plain Dealer story  Some staff would remain downtown.

The Cleveland Jewish News of September 19, 2008 was headlined "Federation to move east and stay downtown." Read the story part one, part two.

Budgetary considerations related to the econonomic downturn of late 2008 caused Federation to cut its staff from more than 130 to about 100 - still twice the number it employed in 1963.

In April 2010, following the example of Federations around the nation, our Federation shortened its name from "Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland" to "Jewish Federation of Cleveland." Some objected to removing the word "community."

In late May 2010, Federation's new logo (shown full size at the right) appeared  on its website. In what we assume is an error, the words OF CLEVELAND have become almost unreadable.

On August 2, 2010 Federation opened for business in its new home in an office buillding in Commerce Park in Beachwood, the building's purchase and renovation enabled by a $16 million gift from the Mandel family.
